Ric Smith Ready for General Election

Polson, MT (PRWEB) June 10, 2006 -- Ric Smith (D-Finley Point), candidate for Senate District 5 in Flathead and Lake Counties, congratulates Verdell Jackson for winning the Republican primary yesterday.

“We’ve been working hard on our campaign since last fall, meeting fellow District 5 residents, and letting them know about my background. Now that the Primary is over, I look forward to continued discussions with the voters, listening to their thoughts and answering their questions”

Smith is a 25-year resident of the Flathead Valley and owner of a small business.

“I have been a small businessperson since 1981," Smith states, "I know what it is like to write everyone else a check at the end of the month but my own, and in better times I know what it is like to have a great profit at the end of the month.”

When it comes to water quality Smith’s track record speaks for itself, and he is the clear choice for ensuring our water stays clean. “I have successfully advocated for water quality, locally and statewide since the ‘80s when it wasn’t cool. As a former board member of the Flathead Lakers, one of the founders of the Friends of the Biological Station, and former Chairman of Montana Trout Unlimited, it goes without saying that my passion, commitment and experience for water quality runs strong”. Smith continues, “Flathead Lake and its quality is a cornerstone for our Valley. Our water quality should not be compromised.”

During the past 25 years, Smith has worked with many individuals, with varying view points in regards to economic development as a Montana Ambassador. As a father of three he knows first hand the importance of quality education and as a small businessperson he understands the need to provide accessible health care for all. As an active member of the community he has been involved in planning in our valley for 25 years serving on the Lake County Planning Board, the Polson Area Chamber-of-Commerce, and the Polson Community Development Board. He has the necessary experience, insights and abilities to lead the community as we work through difficult challenges. These issues that face Senate District 5 paired with his passion for the district and experience in working with all sides to develop and implement sensible and practical solutions make him the best senate choice in November.

“My first commitment as your Senator is that you are first. It is not about me. It is about you. It is not about the Democratic or Republican parties. It is about you. You are first.” Smith concludes.
